Washington State Focus of National Webinar
At the Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition (COPC), we are so focused on doing the work of building the next healthiest generation for Washington that we don’t always step back to see how we match up with the rest of the nation. Recently, the Center for Science and the Public Interest invited COPC and leaders from the Washington State Department of Health to detail its journey in becoming the first state to adopt a comprehensive food service policy.
Over 200 individuals have registered for the webinar so far, and we invite colleagues – both in and outside of Washington state – to join us. In addition to tracing the path to the Executive Order, a real time update on the implementation of this groundbreaking policy will be provided.
The Journey to EO 13-06: How Washington State Adopted a Policy to Improve Food on State Property
February 25th, 12:00-1:00 pm PST
ASTHO, the Food Marketing Workgroup, and NPLAN Webinar
Washington is the first state in the country to establish a comprehensive food service policy. On October 30, 2013, Governor Inslee issued Executive Order 13-06, which requires all executive agencies to adopt the Washington State Healthy Nutrition Guidelines. Each state agency must fully implement the Guidelines by the end of 2016.
The webinar presenters will describe the journey from policy idea to executive order, including the roles played and actions taken by advocates, legislators, the department of health, and governor. The health department will describe the consensus building that took place within state government, how the nutrition standards were developed, and plans for implementation.
