Remembering a Safe Routes Hero

Just a few weeks ago, Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition members and staff found themselves celebrating historic statewide funding increases for a program that we know to be transformative for communities and schools throughout the country. That program is Safe Routes to School, and the success of that program nationally is in large part due to leaders like Deb Hubsmith.

Yesterday, we were sad to learn of her passing.

Deb was a key member in the movement to get more kids biking and walking to school each day. She was the Founder of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, and if you weren’t familiar with her tireless efforts, we encourage you to read a tribute to her by colleague and Safe Routes to School National Partnership Board Chair, Risa Wilkerson.

Read the tribute to Deb Hubsmith here.

On behalf of the Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition and advocates for healthy kids and communities everywhere, thank you Deb. You will be missed.
