Physical Education & Health Reporting Takes Effect

New Physical Education reporting requirements from SHB 1235, take effect this spring

During the 2017 Legislative session, COPC worked on passing SHB 1235. Since passage, The Office of Superintentant of Public Instruction (OSPI) has worked on integrating an annual review of Physical Education programs (RCW 28A.230.055). The requirement will increase accountability for schools around physical education by requiring schools to provide data that can be aggregated at the state level. We will quickly get a clear picture of the physical education quality in our state.

OSPI has developed assessments that can be used by teachers in the classroom throughout the school year to gauge student understanding of the learning standards for Health and Physical education.

Check out OSPI’s revised Health and Physical Education templates.

For the 2017– 18 school year, school districts are required to report assessment information using the specified forms by June 30. For more information, please see this bulletin.
