Our Seattle Times Op-ed: A Tale of Two Cities

Washington state made news last month when two of our cities – Yakima and Bellingham made two very opposite national top ten lists. Yakima was ranked as the fourth most obese city in the country, while Bellingham sits in the fourth least obese spot.

This left many heads doing a double take, including The Seattle Times, which called the two rankings ‘peculiar.’ In an Op-ed published today, Tuesday, May 6th, Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition’s director, Vic Colman and Seattle Children’s pediatrician, Lenna Liu explain why obesity prevention advocates view the rankings as all too typical for states with health disparities.
