Two New Positions: Healthiest Next Generation Initiative

Earlier this year, Governor Inslee requested HB 2643/SB 6383, the first formal legislative request to invest in obesity prevention in our state legislature history. The crux of the bill was to identify policies and funding actions that would protect our children’s health. The initiative was ultimately funded through through the operating budget.

As a result, there are two new positions that have been created to support the position.

The Washington State Department of Health has created a new position for a Healthiest Next Generation Coordinator. This individual will be responsible for leading an interagency work group with the Department of Early Learning (DEL) and Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to develop and implement a coordinated approach to reducing the burden of childhood obesity in Washington State.
