Enable Child Care Providers to Provide Better Care

Improving Child Care standards for physical activity, nutrition and screen time is a clear priority of the COPC, as well as with some of our key partners. At this time, the state Department of Early Learning is embarking on two related rules processes for two kinds of child care providers: one, school-age http://www.del.wa.gov/laws/development/schoolage.aspx ; and, two, centers http://www.del.wa.gov/laws/development/center.aspx. Recently, we offered similar comment to the third type of child care provider, family home, but were unable to “move the dial” very much for that segment. Now, we have two other opportunities to enable child care providers in our state to offer contemporary care for food, activity and screen time.

What you can do:

  • Write your own letter to the Department of Early Learning by COB Monday, April 30, 2012 to: DEL Rules Coordinator, PO Box 40972, Olympia, WA 98504-0972. Click here to access a sample letter for each of the two types of provider now in play – our center-based letter and school age letter.

Remember to cc info@copcwa.org on any letters/emails written or simply provide a copy of your correspondence.
