Bike or Walk? We Need You.

The time is now. Washington State’s House of Representatives is currently working on their version of the State Transportation revenue package. Tell your Representatives that you want them to prioritize funding for the Safe Routes to School and Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety grant programs.

Slide1What we know about biking and walking:

  • Biking and walking is an easy way to get your regular daily physical activity.
  • Studies have demonstrated that kids who walk to school are more alert, eager and ready to learn.
  • Streets are safer when more people walk and bike on them.
  • Transportation costs can be reduced – both for individuals and school districts.
A recent statewide poll found that:
  • Vast majority of WA State voters agree every child deserves to bike or walk to school on a safe route, and that communities should be planned to enable these activities.
  • A whopping 84 percent of voters think SRTS should be part of State transportation spending.
  • Two-third’s of voters are more likely to support additional transportation funds if some were used to expand SRTS statewide.

Please take action TODAY and let your Representative know that you want to see funding for the active transportation programs prioritized.
